Viewers depend on photographs to capture moments in time, as well as to add depth and texture to stories. In this class, you will be in the field every other week: taking photos, interviewing individuals, and capturing stories in text as well as audio recordings. When you are not in the field you will conduct research write/edit copy, headlines, and captions to accompany photographs. The skills developed through this process can be adapted for both still photography and video documentary productions.

John Rizzo has 32 years experience behind the camera and has been published in Newsweek, The New York Times, The LA Times Magazine, The Washington Post Magazine, and Bloomberg. He is currently a staff photographer for WAG Magazine, and has recently taught 5 Artist-In-Residency programs in 2016 that were funded by ArtsWestchester and the NYS Council On The Arts. In 2016 he received an Arts Alive Grant to produce a documentary and photography exhibition on wounded soldiers. He also leads photography tours to Ethiopia, Kenya and Niger, which are 12 day excursions that give participants the chance to learn in the field.
