This innovative program is for mid-level students to focus on developing their skills in drawing, painting, photography and filmmaking while helping them prepare for intensive visual arts instruction in high school and beyond. Held in the studios of Dutchess Community College along with its sister program The Art Institute, students will explore the foundations of good artmaking practices in a variety of media. Film & Photography studies will build students’ understanding of storytelling, conceptualism, and digital equipment while Drawing & Painting studies will expand their understanding of composition, color relationships, visual art techniques and more.
Students choose from two areas of concentration during each of the 3 sessions offered:

This intermediate course explores the principles of visual art and 2D design. Students work on landscapes, still lifes, compositional elements, portraits, and more while exploring a variety of techniques and methods in drawing, painting, and photography.
Filmmaking & Photography

Learn innovative ways to develop filmmaking and photography skills while creating work that pushes the boundaries of your imagination. Students will learn about production techniques, shot composition and cinematography, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

Every week brings you something different! At the Junior Art Institute, each week features a different Artist/Educator. These artists work to challenge students through various projects, assignments, techniques and inspiring art as unique as the artists themselves. By attending multiple weeks, students enrich their experience by discovering a variety of creative processes.
