Description

Learn college admission secrets that could save your family thousands in tuition, stand out from other applicants, and understand the process. Dive deep into all aspects of admissions; including application, portfolio reviews, writing your essays, and increasing your chances for top scholarship awards. Plus, explore potential career pathways, the art college experience, and avoiding the pitfalls of the process. You will receive individualized advice on identifying schools that are the best fit for you and making the admission process as stress free as possible.

*This class will be taught virtually via Zoom.

Todd Poteet is the founding Director of The Art Institute, and owner of the graphic design firm Pen & Ink Creative. During his tenure at The Art Effect, Todd helped place 100% of the graduating class in college on merit-based scholarships from a variety of schools including Yale, Maryland Institute College of Arts, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbus College of Art & Design, and CalArts. He attended Pratt Institute for a BFA in Illustration and Printmaking on a full scholarship. Todd attended a Masters program at Pratt and received his Masters in Education from Emporia State University; has a specialty in drawing, served as a master apprentice in printmaking, and has taught at Pratt Institute’s Saturday School, LaGuardia High School for the Visual and Performing Arts and of course, The Art Effect. He is the recipient of prestigious awards including: the Dutchess County Executive Arts Award for Art Education, The Friend of the Arts Award, The 40 under 40 Shaker Award, The Scholastics Arts & Writing Gold Medal Award for Art Education, Top 10 Most Influential Artists in the Hudson Valley, and the Congressional Medal for the Arts. His students have won national merit awards in the arts including numerous awards from Scholastic, ICreate competition of the Bruce Museum and the Young Arts competition. In addition to guiding his students to merit-based college scholarships totaling more than $45 million, he has helped his students to have work shown in full-length feature films (Remember Me), art museums, gallery exhibitions, and national print campaigns.

As a drawer, painter, and printmaker, Todd has shown in small group shows and solo exhibits for more than 30 years. He has served as an etching assistant at the Watanabe Print Studio in Brooklyn where he worked on projects for Frances Jetter, Christian Eckart, Frank Stella, among others. Todd has created more than 20 public art murals throughout the Hudson Valley, most notably are the Garden of Hope at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center, All About Love at the Dutchess County SPCA, and The Power of Art street mural (the first of its kind) in Poughkeepsie. His illustrations have appeared in small publications to national campaigns. He is an avid believer in the power of sketchbooks and encourages artists young and old to record their world, ideas, thoughts, and observations. However, Todd mostly enjoys creating small block prints to share with the public. He often leaves prints of his work in public places for unsuspecting visitors to discover and enjoy.
