MAAP (Media & Arts Advancement Program)

Home /

The Media & Arts Advancement Program (MAAP) seeks to create successful college pathways for low-income, first generation youth interested in careers in the arts.

MAAP serves first generation youth from Poughkeepsie High School, many of whom struggle to succeed academically and are from families with parents who do not hold a college degree or have experience navigating the college process. MAAP provides these youth with a peer network, adult mentorship, and skills including financial management, time management, and professional communication. Students participate in a weekly class with their cohort of peers, engage regularly with a mentor, and attend Art Institute courses in fall, spring, and summer sessions.

David Wong & Jordan Sanford oversee the implementation of the Media & Arts Advancement Program. To learn more about MAAP and our other programs call 845.471.7477

The Art Effect is monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in New York and will continue to implement health and safety measures to protect our students and their families. The Art Effect’s in-person programs are on hiatus at least through April 20, 2020. As long as Dutchess County and New York State have mandated school closures and there is local, state, and federal guidance to avoid social gatherings, we will not run in-person programs. When we postpone, reschedule, or shift the format of classes, parents and participants will be notified immediately. Should it become necessary for The Art Effect to cancel scheduled camps or classes, prorated refunds will be issued to those affected by the cancellation. We thank you for your continued support and we will keep everyone apprised of any major changes at The Art Effect that may occur.
