Empire Program

Empire State After-School Program

In partnership with the Poughkeepsie City School District, The Art Effect delivers arts, media and theater enrichment programs to over 250 students in grades 2-12 each year.

Over 25 professional artist educators provide students with a media and arts-based learning program which meets the New York State Learning Standards for both English Language and The Arts by using visual, literary, media and performing arts projects to engage students as active, creative learners. These programs educate youth on how and why art and media are created, and provide access to equipment, supplies, technology and tools our students can utilize to create their own art, media, and theatre pieces.

This program is designed to meet ambitious goals of improving students’ academic achievement and achieving consistent attendance and focused participation by the majority of underserved youth in the City of Poughkeepsie. We are proud to collaborate with a consortium of community-based organizations, school administrators, educators, and artists to improve the lives of students and their families in Poughkeepsie.

The Art Effect is monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in New York and will continue to implement health and safety measures to protect our students and their families. The Art Effect’s in-person programs are on hiatus at least through April 20, 2020. As long as Dutchess County and New York State have mandated school closures and there is local, state, and federal guidance to avoid social gatherings, we will not run in-person programs. When we postpone, reschedule, or shift the format of classes, parents and participants will be notified immediately. Should it become necessary for The Art Effect to cancel scheduled camps or classes, prorated refunds will be issued to those affected by the cancellation. We thank you for your continued support and we will keep everyone apprised of any major changes at The Art Effect that may occur.
