Media/Art/Design Lab (MADLab)

The Art Effect’s Media, Arts, and Design Lab (MADLab) workforce development program annually employs 40 at-risk local youth and helps them develop workforce and technical skills through visual arts projects.

Through four after-school sessions and one full-time summer session, youth earn a wage or stipend as they explore arts careers, produce collaborative projects, and learn workplace skills such as time management, team work, leadership, and communication. Each year, the program has a creative placemaking component where youth design and produce public art installations in downtown Poughkeepsie.

Stay tuned for details on where and how you can see the amazing art created in this session of MADLab and when applications will drop for our upcoming MADLab summer session.

The Art Effect is monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in New York and will continue to implement health and safety measures to protect our students and their families. The Art Effect’s in-person programs are on hiatus at least through April 20, 2020. As long as Dutchess County and New York State have mandated school closures and there is local, state, and federal guidance to avoid social gatherings, we will not run in-person programs. When we postpone, reschedule, or shift the format of classes, parents and participants will be notified immediately. Should it become necessary for The Art Effect to cancel scheduled camps or classes, prorated refunds will be issued to those affected by the cancellation. We thank you for your continued support and we will keep everyone apprised of any major changes at The Art Effect that may occur.
