Award Ceremony & Closing Reception: May 10, 2019, 6:30pm.
The Art Effect invites the public to attend the award presentation and closing ceremony for youth artists at the 16th annual Exposure Photography Exhibition on May 10th, 6:30-8:30pm at The Art Effect Pershing Studios at 45 Pershing Avenue, Poughkeepsie. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
The Exposure exhibition showcases the talented photography of local and national high school students, nurturing and giving attention to young people’s creative voice. Emerging photographers share their unique perspective on the world through incredible images, from classic black-and-white darkroom photography to digitally manipulated images. The exhibition is one of very few juried student photography exhibitions in the Hudson Valley.
The Art Effect received over 350 photographs by 100 students from 22 schools, spanning four states. This year, the Poughkeepsie Awesome Foundation generously supported contributions from students in the City of Poughkeepsie. Thanks to their support, for the first time in 16 years, 19 students from Poughkeepsie High School submitted 45 photographs for consideration.
Eighty-seven pieces were selected for the exhibit. Winner of Best In Show and the runners-up will be announced at the closing reception on May 10th. Prizes include one full tuition scholarship to Maryland Institute College of Art’s Summer 2019 pre-college program, and scholarships to the Summer Art Intensive at The Art Effect along with cash prizes for second and third place. Presiding as judges were professional artists and photographers Al Nowak(onlocationstudios.com), Robert Stevens (robertflaneur.com/), and Steven Steele Cawman (sscphoto.com).
A full tuition scholarship to the Summer Art Intensive of The Art Effect, one $1500 scholarship to Maryland Institute College of Art’s Summer 2019 Pre-college program, a number of cash awards and other prizes will be awarded.
